Family Preference Categories (F1-F4)

Visa categories for U.S. citizens and permanent residents to sponsor adult children, siblings, or other family members abroad.

What is Family Preference Categories (F1-F4)?

The Family Preference Categories (F1–F4) allow U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents to sponsor certain family members who are not considered “immediate relatives.” These include unmarried adult children (F1), spouses and unmarried children of permanent residents (F2), married children of U.S. citizens (F3), and siblings of U.S. citizens (F4). Each category has specific eligibility criteria and annual visa limits that affect waiting times.

We help families navigate the complex preference system by determining eligibility, monitoring visa bulletin updates, and preparing complete, accurate applications. Our guidance ensures compliance with immigration laws and helps families stay informed and ready for each step of the process toward reunification in the United States.
